Description
The oak alleys at Santee Coastal Reserve in South Carolina are a true testament to the beauty and grandeur of nature. As you venture into this coastal haven, you're greeted by a mesmerizing landscape that features majestic oak trees forming stunning, canopied pathways known as oak alleys.
The alleys are composed of centuries-old live oak trees (Quercus virginiana) that stretch their sprawling branches across the path, creating a tunnel-like effect. These ancient oaks are draped with graceful curtains of Spanish moss, lending an air of mystique and a touch of Southern gothic charm to the scene.
The oaks themselves are characterized by their sinuous and curving branches, which lend a sense of organic elegance to the landscape. The massive trunks are weathered and textured, showcasing the resilience of these trees in the face of coastal winds and changing seasons.
