A great blue heron glides gracefully over the marsh, its wings majestically spread wide, with lush greenery in the background. The scene captures the elegance and poise of the bird in mid-flight. I captured this image on a tidal creek on Isle of Palms, South Carolina, just as the sun was setting. A bit of warm sunlight illuminated this beautiful heron, just as he took off, out of the marsh, leaving a trail of water droplets off his feet. I love photographing these fascinating birds in flight.
